In a small victory for the Fossil Free UCL divestment movement, UCL Council are finally set to review UCL’s di- rect £14 million investment in fossil fuels.
A meeting of UCL’s Ethical Invest- ment Review Committee (EIRC) last week reccommended that UCL Council discuss the enforcement of a blanket ban on fossil fuel investments.
UCLU Environment and Ethics of- ficer, Zakariya Mohran, said that the de- cision was “great news” and puts divest- ment on “the agenda of UCL’s highest governing body”. The EIRC are also set to publish their recommendations on divest- ment from individual fossil fuels compa- nies, a move Mohran believes will assist the Fossil Free cause further.
The ball is now in the court of UCL Council, who will decide on 21st May whether or not to divest.
